The Revolutionary: Samuel Adams by Stacy Schiff, 2022

In Pulitzer Prize winning author Stacy Schiff’s biography, she wrote about Samuel Adams, second cousin to John Adams. Samuel Adams was a late bloomer, seen as a perfect failure until he found his calling at 41. Thomas Jefferson described Adams as “truly the man of the Revolution.” He incited the colonists after the Boston Massacre, helped to mastermind the Boston Tea Party, and was a key organizer in the fight for independence. When Paul Revere had his famous ride to Lexington in 1775 (The British are coming, the British are coming!), it was to warn Samuel Adams that he was about to be arrested for treason.

This fascinating book about an often overlooked figure in history was named to many best book lists for 2022 including Barack Obama’s Favorite Books of 2022.
