Hillsborough Honors America’s 250th Anniversary with Independence Day Celebration and Fireworks

Family Fun Day & Fireworks Will Take on a Patriotic Focus for America’s Semiquincentennial

HILLSBOROUGH, N.J. — Hillsborough Township is proud to announce its annual Family Fun Day and Fireworks, a fan-favorite community event that this year serves as a grand celebration of the United States’ Semiquincentennial. On Saturday, June 27th, residents are invited to Auten Road Intermediate School to commemorate 250 years of American independence with a blend of historical tributes and modern entertainment.

“I’m thrilled to serve as Hillsborough’s Mayor during this historic milestone,” said Mayor Catherine Payne at Tuesday’s Township Committee meeting. “That I get to celebrate with Hillsborough’s residents is one of the highlights of my year.”

The festivities begin at 5:00 p.m. with a deep dive into America's roots. The event kicks off with a reenactment by local Boy Scout Troop 1776, followed by a performance of “The Rogue’s March” by the West Jersey Artillery’s Fife & Drum brigade. As the evening progresses, the energy shifts to the stage where the Somerville School of Rock will take a more modern approach, starting at 7:00 p.m. During the musical intermission, the New Jersey Harmony Chorus will perform a series of patriotic tunes to keep the celebratory spirit high.

In honor of the 250th anniversary, attendees can visit a special commemorative family photo booth to capture memories of the milestone and visit the Hillsborough Township tent to receive exclusive Semiquincentennial souvenirs. The celebration features a wide array of activities for all ages, including inflatable amusements, carnival games, and souvenirs and information from various local organizations. A variety of refreshments will be available at the food tent, featuring favorites such as pizza, chicken, hamburgers, hot dogs, and kettle corn.

“The 250th Anniversary Committee has worked very hard for the past year and a half to provide commemorative entertainment and activities at no cost to taxpayers,” added Deputy Mayor and 250th Anniversary Committee Liaison Shawn Lipani. “We are grateful to our team for putting this together and to our generous sponsors for ensuring a star-spangled celebration for Hillsborough.”

To ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone, residents are encouraged to bring folding chairs and blankets to the Auten Road Intermediate School field located at 281 Auten Road. Please note that there is no public parking available at the event site. Complimentary shuttle buses will be provided from the Hillsborough High School parking lot beginning at 5:00 p.m. and will run throughout the evening. Join the Hillsborough community for this historic and festive evening of history, music, and community celebration.

The rain date for Family Fun Day is Sunday, June 28th. However, the New Jersey Harmony Chorus will be unable to perform on that day.
